TCRP x Google

February 28, 2012

As part of the Women@Google initiative, TCRP was invited to visit the Google Singapore office on Feb 7 to introduce The Chain Reaction Project and its project for 2012.

Some 40-odd Googlers from across the organization made time to attend the presentation – among them more than a few men undeterred by the Women@Google branding and curious to find out more about this unique new charity initiative.

They had been promised an entertaining, inspiring and heartwarming hour, and Ting more than delivered, in her presentation titled “I Like to Ride My Bicycle”. As a metaphor for how Googlers could identify their passions and use them to do good, the content of her talk certainly resonated with the audience, reminding them to take a moment in the middle of their day jobs to think about what they were truly passionate about.

The later part of the presentation focused on TCRP’s 2012 project – raising $100,000 for the Visayan Forum Foundation Inc., going towards the Center of Hope, a support organization for women and children victims of human trafficking in the Philippines. This drew loads of questions from the audience – from those curious about joining the challenge, as well as those who expressed trepidation about the physical nature of the trip but were nonetheless keen to support it monetarily.

But at the end of it all, the message that stood out most for everyone was that it really doesn’t take a huge, activist movement to make a positive difference in the world. Whether it was playing the cello, wearing the same dress for a year, or singing karaoke – Ting and the rest of the TCRP team have proved that it is possible to do what you love and be a catalyst for change at the same time.
